Version 1.0
Effective: June 4, 2008

We are strongly committed to safeguarding member privacy on our Web site. We operate under the following set of privacy principles:

What Information does Homework Tree Collect?

We collect the information you give us via the required registration forms and the optional feedback forms and polls. If you choose to provide us with personal information, you consent to the transfer and storage of that information to our servers.

What is it used for?

There are four main uses that your information may be put to:

  1. to maintain your personalized planner database (user name, email, password, etc)
  2. to communicate with you as humanly as possible (For example, we collect your name so that your welcome email says “Hi John” instead of “Hi jsmith”. You are a real person, after all.)
  3. to telephone winners of the Tuition Prize Draws to confirm student status (phone numbers)
  4. to better understand the types of students who use our service, how you learned about our site, and what is most useful to you, so that we can continue to develop and serve you (age, major, school, how you heard about us, etc)

Occasionally, statistical information about our site members (such as the number of members we have in a certain geographical region) may be used for marketing purposes. Such compilations will always be general, and will not include any personal identifying information.

What is it not used for?

Personal information that identifies our members by name, email, phone or address is not and will not be revealed, traded, sold or rented to any third party.

Account Protection

Your password is the key to your account. Use unique numbers, letters, and special characters and do not disclose your password to anyone. If you do share your password or your personal information with others, remember that you are responsible for all actions taken in the name of your account.

If you lose control of your password, you may lose substantial control over your personal information. Therefore, if your password has been compromised for any reason, you should immediately login to Homework Tree and change your password.

We do retain the right to retain personal information from closed accounts in order to comply with law, prevent fraud, collect any fees owed, resolve disputes, troubleshoot problems, assist with any investigations, enforce our Terms of Use, and take other actions otherwise permitted by law.

How Secure Is Information About Me?

Our Web site has security measures in place to protect against the loss, misuse and alteration of the information under our control. We employ strict security measures to safeguard online transactions; personal information is stored in a secured database.

However, third parties may unlawfully intercept or access transmissions or private communications, and may abuse or misuse your personal information that they collect from the site. Therefore, although we work very hard to protect your privacy, we do not promise, and you should not expect, that your personal information or private communications will always remain private.

We release account and other personal information when we believe release is appropriate to comply with the law; enforce or apply our Terms of Use and other agreements; or protect the rights, property, or safety of Homework, our users, or others.

Policy Changes

We stand behind the promises we make and will never materially change our policies and practices to make them less protective of customer information collected in the past without the consent of affected customers.

If Homework Tree becomes involved in a merger, acquisition, or any form of sale of some or all of its assets, we will provide notice before personal information is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

Please note that Homework Tree may amend this Privacy Policy at any time by posting the amended terms on the Site. All amended terms automatically take effect 30 days after they are initially posted on the Site.

We expect most such changes would be minor, and we will not reduce your rights under this Policy without your explicit consent.
